LYRICS - So Dream

So Dream 03_30_19

LYRICS:

It’s hard to prove them right.
Winners often lose.
Upper-middle-class expectations.

Stuck in young adulthood.
I try to be aspirational.
I try to be aspirational.
I try to be aspirational.
I try to be aspirational.

It’s daunting when the future’s hazy
And the American Dream is a dream.

So, dream!
So, dream!
So, dream!
Dream!

It’s hard to prove them right.
Winners often lose.
Upper-middle-class expectations.
Expectations.
Expectations.
Expectations.
Expectations.

So, dream!
So, dream!
So, dream!
Dream!

It’s daunting when the future’s hazy
And the American Dream is a dream.

So, dream!
So, dream!
So, dream!
Dream!

LYRICS - Pixel Strings

By Emma Johnson
May 28, 2012

LYRICS:

I wish I knew you more.
I will miss you.
I hope we meet again
soon.

You make me comfortable
Even though I don’t know
every detail about you.

When you’re away
I feel close to you when I play the violin.

Can we play a duet?
Over the internet?

The pixel strings can hold us together
until we change circumstance
And start a romance.

Another place, another time.
Another place, another time.
Another place, another time.
Another place, another time.
Another place, another time.
Another place, another time.

I wish I knew you more.
I will miss you.

I look forward to learning
The parts of you I don’t know.
I hope we meet again
soon.
I will miss you.
I hope we meet again
soon
Soon.

LYRICS - An Emo Emu Song

By Emma Johnson
January 19, 2008
--------------------------------------------

This is an emo emu song. / 1,2,3 … Here it goes:
I live in New York City. / The most populated city.
And it is such a pity/ because I live alone.
I wanted to get a cat—but—I / didn’t want to be stereotyped. So—I—
went to Australia (I got a good deal on airfare/ on Expedia).
While I was there—I—saw—a bird.
If you haven’t—guessed—yet—it was an emu.

An emu, I tell you.
An emu, I tell you.
The bird was an emu.
An emu, I tell you.
An emu, I tell you.
This bird was an emu.

Dro—ma—ious.
Dro—ma—ious.
Dro—ma—ious-------------------.

I flew to Australia—but—you are the only bird that cannot fly.
I bought—a ticket—for you on the plane
I even claimed that I was blind for you.
I brought you to my apartment. / Which is really small.
You were fine for a day. / But the next day you didn’t appreciate confinement at all!
So, I took you for a walk, but it was Black Friday.
There were so many people outside,
but I thought that we could find a way.
Oh oh emu
What to do?
Oh oh emu, what to do with you!

Then I made a terrible mistake. / I made a wrong turn.
We walked by a petting zoo /And for another emu you did yearn.
She was six feet tall, / Running at 50 kilometers an hour
Her brown, feathered skin / Fluffing up in the wind.
Small wings.
Long neck.
Is this really love at first site?
“Oh, what the heck?” I said.
I bought us two tickets / to the zoo.
That was the day that the petting-zoo-emu fell in love with you (fell in love with you).
Oh oh, emu. / Now I know what to do with you!

I called the zookeeper over
And asked if you could live with her.
The—finite details—of this story
Have—now—become a blur.
I remember the worker was happy,
That now their emu had a little friend.
Your lady-emu-friend laid some eggs
And incubated them for fifty-six days.
And during that time
You got used to each others’ ways.

Instead of mating for a standard five months
You wanted to be partners for life.
So, I enlisted a tailor to make a wedding dress/ for your wife.
It turned out a perfect fit,
Just like your bride and you.
And then, I realized there was only one thing to do.
I would have to let go of you.
I would have to let go of you.
Oh oh, emu.
Oh oh, emu. / You break my heart in two.

I walked the streets around St. Mark’s Place
Because I thought you needed some space.
But I went back to the zoo to see your babies being born.
And I could have sworn
I saw a smile.
I hugged you and your wife and your little baby emus.
and got so carried away that I fell into a guy.
“What are you doing?” He said
“I’m talking to my emus.”
“Why did you fall into me?/ Are you clumsy?”
“No! I get carried away when I hug my emus.
Emu, emu, I love you.”
“That’s a very good reason,” he said.
“Since you ran into me I thought you were a jerk, but you seem really sensitive instead.”
“I am.
I am---------------!”
“Do you want to go for a walk?” he said.
“Yes!” I said. “Yes!” I said.

The emu smiled at me, but it was bittersweet.
We both loved each other, but other species we had to meet.
It’s just our nature. / To mate with our own kind.
But anytime the emu has trouble, he calls me up in a bind.
Oh oh, emu. / I miss you.
Oh oh, emu. / you were right:
It was either Australia or the petting zoo for you.
Emu, emu. / The sacrifices that I make for you.

And now that I am married
I’m happy but a little sad.
I love my husband and my kids,
But sometimes I think about the good times we had.
Oh oh, emu
Oh oh, emu
I loved you from the start.
Oh oh emu.
Oh oh emu.
You will always have a special place in my heart.

LYRICS - Water Under the Bridge

Emma Johnson
9-5-03
song
“What Could Have Been/ It’s all Water Under the Bridge”

LYRICS:

I saw a girl at a party but I
was too shy to say, “Hello.”
By the time I got up the nerve to talk to her
I overheard her say, “I have to go.”
Why couldn’t the evening have ended
with at least a resounding “No”?
Now I'll never know
What could have been.
What could have been.

(But now it’s)
all water under the bridge.
It’s all water under the bridge.
When I think back a year ago.
It’s all water under the bridge.

You’d like me if you got to know me
but you’ll never get that far.
The issues that I’m dealing with,
you took for bizarre.
But you’ll never get to see
how things could have been.
I’ll keep unhappiness to myself
and never bug you again.

(Because it’s)
all water under the bridge.
It’s all water under the bridge.
When I think back a year ago.
It’s all water under the bridge.

All the guys I want to date have girlfriends.
All the girls I want to date are heterosexual.
What does this mean?
I could just (fucking) scream!
Ahhhhh!

It’s all water under the bridge.
It’s all water under the bridge.
When I think back a year ago.
It’s all water under the bridge.

They say love will come/ when you least expect it
but it never came.
But since I’ve just been/ waiting here passively,
I’m the one to blame.
I’d been lead to believe/ this was one of those things
like waiting for water to boil.
Go do something else for a while –
it’ll happen in no time.

(Now it’s)
all water under the bridge.
It’s all water under the bridge.
When I think back a year ago.
It’s all water under the bridge.

It’s all water under the bridge.
It’s all water under the bridge.
When I think back a year ago.
It’s all water under the bridge.

LYRICS - Yuppie

Song
6-4-03
By Emma Johnson

LYRICS:

I used to pride myself for never
working for a corporation.
But now the bills are adding up
and I’m acting out of desperation.
Twenty-two years old but now
things are going to change.
I’m forced to do what I don’t wanna do,
but it’s no use to complain.

I’m just afraid it’ll get to me
and I won’t know who I am anymore.
What used to be so foreign to me
now surrounds me every day.
Then someone asks me what do you stand for/
and I don’t know what to say.

I am a yuppie now.
Don’t ask me how
It came to be.
I am no longer me.

Don’t ask me how
It came to be
I am no longer me.
I am a yuppie now
Don’t ask me how
It came to be.
I am no longer me.
I am no longer me.
I am no longer me.
I am no longer me.

LYRICS - I See What's Going On

Song
5-6-03
By Emma Johnson
“I see what’s going on”

LYRICS:

I know you have a low self-esteem
so you minimize what you’re bragging about.
You know you know you know you’re cool, but you’re afraid of refutation.
I don’t need an explanation; I see what’s going on.

Undermining who you are,
but hoping others will see through.
Afraid of overcompensation;
play it safe until you’re sure.

But will you ever be sure?
But will you ever be sure?
But will you ever be sure?
But will you ever be sure?

I know you have a low self-esteem
so you minimize what you’re bragging about.
You know you know you know you’re cool, but you’re afraid of refutation.
I don’t need an explanation; I see what’s going on.

I see what’s going on.
I see what’s going on.
I’m guilty of the same thing too.
I see what’s going on.
I see what’s going on.
I see what’s going on with
you.

LYRICS - A Myriad of Teenaged Angst

7-25-02/ 3-3-03/ 3-5-03
By Emma Johnson
“a myriad of teenage angst”

LYRICS:

No sex, No drugs. Just Rock and Roll
and a myriad of Teenage Angst.
No sex, No drugs. Just Rock and Roll
and a myriad of Teenage Angst.

You asked me, “How are you doing today?”
But do you even care?
You sat and talked an hour with me.
But you weren’t even there.

And then sometimes
I wonder why
I’m hanging out with you.
Oh, yeah, now
I guess I remember I had
nothing better to do.

No sex, No drugs. Just Rock and Roll
and a myriad of Teenage Angst.
No sex, No drugs. Just Rock and Roll
and a myriad of Teenage Angst.

It’s amazing how much can be said,
without saying anything apprehended.
Just shout out something random and
someone’s sure to think of something unintended.

[[1]Beatle’s sample: Goo goo ga joob
     Goo goo ga joob
     Goo goo ga joob]

You asked me, “How are you doing today?”
But do you even care?
You sat and talked an hour with me.
But you weren’t even there.
And then sometimes
I wonder why
I’m hanging out with you.
Oh, yeah, now
I guess I remember I had
nothing better to do.

No sex, No drugs. Just Rock and Roll
and a myriad of Teenage Angst.
No sex, No drugs. Just Rock and Roll
and a myriad of Teenage Angst.

No sex, No drugs. Just Rock and Roll
and a myriad of Teenage Angst.
No sex, No drugs. Just Rock and Roll
and a myriad of Teenage Angst.

LYRICS - Normal Girl

By Emma Johnson
6-6-02
“normal girl”

LYRICS:

I wish I didn’t care
what people thought of me
because I’m constantly
insecure.

I am insecure
because I’ve had a fucked-up life
but I like to keep the front I’m a
normal girl.

It’s hard to trust
your intuition when
You’re afraid/ you’ll reveal too much.

I apologize
for holding up this shield
I’m just afraid/
you’ll see too much.

I wish I didn’t care
what people thought of me
because I’m constantly
insecure.

I am insecure
because I’ve had a fucked-up life
but I like to keep the front I’m a
normal girl.

normal girl
normal girl

LYRICS - Latté anything!/Mocha everything!

Latté anything!/Mocha everything!
By eMma jOhnson
10-12-00
song

LYRICS:

Mocha anything
Mocha everything
that’s the way
I like my coffee
(yes) I like my coffee…
hot, not warm
but not so much it will burn
coffee beans
for you I yearn
I burnt my tongue,
but will I ever learn?
I told you how I like coffee,
but now it’s your turn.

Latté anything
Latté everything
that’s the way
I like my coffee
(yeah) I like my coffee…
cold, not warm
and not like ice
I drank a cup this morning
infact I did it twice.
restaurants with free re-fills
are all very nice.
For lunch I had a pot of coffee
and a bowl of rice.

Latté anything
Mocha everything
that’s the way
I like my coffee
I like my coffee
I like my coffee

I like my…
I like my…
I like my…

that’s the way

that’s the way
I like my coffee

that’s the way
I like my coffee

that’s the way
I like my coffee

LYRICS - Is It Someone Else?

2-4-00.1
by Emma Johnson
#568

LYRICS:

When writing is your best friend
and the days seem to fly by
seasons change and come back around
you’re still asking why
to the same questions/
that don’t have answers
things change but it’s still the same
you go to parties
and realize you don’t know anyone/
as well anymore
why is it that I came?
Another day
of random happenings
I try to make it fit together
in a log-i-cal way
but more often than not
I just give up
I may not be logical
but I’ll be o.k.

Things are moving around me
But every year I think the same way
People are changing around me
You’re not the same person I knew yesterday
Events are taking place inside me
I can hear my own voice
unrecognizable to me --
I forget that I control my actions
but do I really, or IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
                             IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
                             IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?

In sixth grade I was the same person
my thoughts mature
for my time
Now maybe
my peers will pass me
I’ll be adolescent forever
until I die.
Sometimes I wish I could watch
the future
fast-forwarding through
the X-rated parts
my life is too adult for me
I’m too immature to be my-self.
Every event foreshadows
every foreshadowing event to come
everything is obvious/
but we don’t see it -- we’re all too dumb

Things are moving around me
But every year I think the same way
People are changing around me
You’re not the same person I knew yesterday
Events are taking place inside me
I can hear my own voice
unrecognizable to me --
I forget that I control my actions
but do I really, or IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
                             IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
                             IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?

I wonder if I know you
probably not because you don’t know yourself
have I ever known you?
the person you were was just leading to
something else
The people of the past are forgotten
because they cease to exist an-y more
you deny you were once someone else
you’re embarrassed because it’s not you an-y more.
But it is still with you
Somewhere in the back of your mind
Someday you’ll retrieve it
but that day will be another time.

Everybody/ in this town
has known everybody/ at one time
now you’re a stran-/ ger and i’m
everybody in this town

Things are moving around me
But every year I think the same way
People are changing around me
You’re not the same person I knew yesterday
Events are taking place inside me
I can hear my own voice
unrecognizable to me --
I forget that I control my actions
but do I really, or IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
                             IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
                             IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?

Things are moving around me
But every year I think the same way
People are changing around me
You’re not the same person I knew yesterday
Events are taking place inside me
I can hear my own voice
unrecognizable to me --
I forget that I control my actions
but do I really, or IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
                             IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
                             IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
                             IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
     IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?
     IS IT SOMEONE ELSE!?

LYRICS - Broccoli!

BROCCOLI!
By Emma Johnson
10-27-99
no. 543
[for Robin Lowney]

LYRICS:

There’s a vegetable
I want to talk about.
It’s green and leafy and good.
There’s a vegetable
I want to talk about.
I eat it all day just like I should.

It’s name is BROCCOLI.
It’s name is BROCCOLI.
It’s name is BROCCOLI.
And I eat it every day like I should. Could
you give me a reason not to eat it?
There’s no vegetable that can beat it.
You know, I really, really need it.
Broccoli, broccoli --
it’s good.

         /Some
people take their vitamins (yeah).
but, you know, they’re missing out (uh-huh).
Some people take their vitamins (oh, yeah),
but this is one vegetable one shouldn’t
live without.

(Without a doubt.)

It’s name is BROCCOLI.
It’s name is BROCCOLI.
It’s name is BROCCOLI.
And I eat it every day like I should. Could
you give me a reason not to eat it.
There’s no vegetable that can beat it.
You know, I really, really need it.
Broccoli, broccoli --
it’s good.

         /So, make
room for 2 or 3 servings a day.
It’s low in fats and saturated fatty acids, what
more can I say?
Melt some cheese
or eat it plain.
Get acquainted with my friend
and you won’t complain.

It’s name is BROCCOLI.
It’s name is BROCCOLI.
It’s name is BROCCOLI.
And I eat it every day like I should. Could
you give me a reason not to eat it.
There’s no vegetable that can beat it.
You know, I really, really need it.
Broccoli, broccoli --
it’s good.

          /Now,
one more thing about broccoli:
you gotta eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
(One thing about broccoli:)
(you gotta) eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
(Just eat that broccoli:)
you gotta eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it

It’s name is BROCCOLI.
It’s name is BROCCOLI.
It’s name is BROCCOLI.
And I eat it every day like I should. Could
you give me a reason not to eat it.
There’s no vegetable that can beat it.
You know, I really, really need it.
Broccoli, broccoli --
it’s good.

[1]Let’s talk about broc-col-i.
Let’s talk about you and me.
Let’s talk about all the vegeta-
bles from which you can derive
vitamin C.
Let’s talk about it.
(Let’s talk about it.)

Let’s talk about broccoli.
We’re talking about broccoli.
It means a lot to me.
Who knew a vegetable could be controversy?
It would win playing Monopoly.
Whoa, this is the way it’s got to be.
What used to be a mystery to me,
became my friend, you see.
The root of catastrophe.
When I go to the supermarket, it’s what I go to see.
It is the way.
What can I say?
But “hats off to you,
Broccoli.”
When things aren’t going your way,
just think of broccoli.
What is it you wanted me to see?
Was it having to do with broccoli?
Let’s hear it for broccoli.
B-R-O-C
C-O-L-I
Broccoli.
I’m not a moron;
you don’t have to spell it out for me.
So, quit your bitchin’,
and come to the kitchen.
Broccoli is sure
to cure
any condition.

We’re talkin’ about
(BROCCOLI!)
Let me hear you say
(BROCCOLI!)
A little louder
(BROCCOLI!)
Break it down
(BROCCOLI! BROCCOLI!)
(BROCCOLI! BROCCOLI!)

Broc-co- ley-a-a-a-hey hay
Broc-co- ley-a-a-ay
Broc-co- ley-a-a-a-hey hay
Broc-co- ley-a-a-ay hey hey hey
hey Broc-co- ley-a-a-a-hey hay
Broc-co- ley-a-a-ay hey hey hey
Broc-co- ley-a-a-a-hey hay
Broc-co- ley-a-a-ay

(BROCCOLI! BROCCOLI!)
(BROCCOLI! BROCCOLI!)

Broccoli, Mmmm

LYRICS - Answering Machine Message

“answering machine message”
by Emma Johnson
9-11-99

LYRICS:

You’ve reached the home of the Johnson residence
but René and Emma are doing things that take more precedence.
But there’s no need for you to get hostile
‘cause we’ll get back to you just as
soon as possible.
Right now we’re out
or maybe we’re here.
But either way
we can’t answer the phone.
So, don’t be shy.
Here’s where your job comes in.
Leave a message right after the tone.
It doesn’t matter if you think it’s important,
because it’s important to us.
Whoever you are,
we want to hear from you
Even if you dialed the wrong number
Or are a prank caller who just wanted to cuss
Just, please leave a message—
a message after the beep.
Otherwise we’ll be contemplating
who we should call
and won’t be able to sleep.

(Thank-you for your co-op-er-ation.)

LYRICS - Asshole

asshole
bY Emma Johnson
12th gr.
8-26-99.1

LYRICS

Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
Sugar is sweet.
And then there’s you.

You seemed so nice when I met you,
But now I want to forget you.
When I met you you seemed good-natured and kind.
But now I believe that I was out of my mind.
Now I know:

You’re an asshole —
a motherfucking prick.
I’d find great pleasure in sticking
an ice-pick up your dick.

The way you carry yourself
is merely a cover
for your deceptive lies.
All I see is my reflection
In your wary eyes.

Many people think
that you are nice.
But they don’t know the real you yet.
But soon they’ll be haunted
by memories of you
they’ll try hard to forget.
Soon they’ll know:

You’re an asshole —
a motherfucking prick.
I’d find great pleasure in sticking
an ice-pick up your dick.
The way you carry yourself
is merely a cover
for your deceptive lies.
All I see is my reflection
In your wary eyes.

I wish you wouldn’t
talk to me,
but that’s nothing I can control.
I haven’t seen you for
a couple of days,
but it’s too soon to say that I’m on a role.
Just one question, why is making me
miserable your goal?
Oh, wait, I can answer that myself:
It’s because you’re an asshole.

You’re an asshole —
a motherfucking prick.
I’d find great pleasure in sticking
an ice-pick up your dick.
The way you carry yourself
is merely a cover
for your deceptive lies.
All I see is my reflection
In your wary eyes.

Everytime I talk to you
a part of myself dies.
Everytime I talk to you
a part of my soul cries.

Do you realize
what you’ve done?
All thoughts end
before they’ve begun.
Now, how will I end
what I’ve already sung?
A part of my soul died
and I began to run.

Everytime I talk to you
a part of myself cries.
Everytime I talk to you
a part of my soul dies.
I tried to change this reoccurring event,
but you will never compromise.

I know it’s
wrong
to think I’m better
than you.
But if you
were me
You’d think the
same thing too.

You’re an asshole —
a motherfucking prick.
I’d find great pleasure in sticking
an ice-pick up your dick.
The way you carry yourself
is merely a cover
for your deceptive lies.
All I see is my reflection
In your wary eyes.

Screwdrivers: The perfect candidate for
“you are what you eat.”
